Biography: Linda Covit was born in Montreal where she lives and works. She received a B.Sc. (major in psychology) from McGill University in Montreal. She has traveled extensively, including five trips to Japan, a country that continues to nourish her work. A professional (self-taught) visual artist for twenty years, the last eight years have focused on large outdoor site-specific installations concerned with nature and the environment. Public art works include a monument for peace commissioned by the City of Montreal, garden installations for several hospitals, and a recently installed work on the grounds of the Bathurst Jewish Community Centre in Toronto. A memorial sculpture fountain for a park in Annapolis, Maryland, and a millennium celebration sculpture for a Civic Centre and an outdoor installation for a primary school in Quebec are current projects. Solo exhibitions have been held in Quebec at the Musee de la Ville de Lachine and the Musee du Quebec, and in Ontario at the Koffler Gallery and the Genereux Grunwald Gallery in Toronto as well as the London Regional Art and Historical Museums and galleries in various cities. Her works figure in the collections of the Musee du Quebec, the Canada Council Art Bank, the University of Concordia and private collectors. She has received numerous grants from the Canada Council, the Japan-Canada Fund, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York.
